Isto é água

Final de ano, tempo de balanços, inventariar o que conseguimos, o que ficou aquém e estabelecer novas metas para o próximo ano. O balanço deste ano, francamente positivo, fica para mim, mas queria partilhar com os leitores deste blogue uma das mais importante lições que aprendi neste e, provavelmente, nos últimos anos.

É um discurso de 2005 de David Foster Wallace numa tradicional cerimónia de graduação na Universidade de Kenyon. O texto é loooongo, mas se tiverem uma mente aberta, não darão o tempo por mal empregue. Muito pelo contrário.

Greetings parents and congratulations to Kenyon’s graduating class of 2005. There are these two young fish swimming along and they happen to meet an older fish swimming the other way, who nods at them and says “Morning, boys. How’s the water?” And the two young fish swim on for a bit, and then eventually one of them looks over at the other and goes “What the hell is water?”
