Há na lei finlandesa, em consonância com a tradição, um conceito conhecido por Jokamiehenoikeudet – Everyman’s rights no inglês que não só permite o acesso livre e indiscriminado (incluindo estrangeiros) à terra e vias marítimas como o direito a recolher produtos naturais tais como bagas e cogumelos de qualquer propriedade – com algumas poucas excepções e obrigando o utilizador a manter a propriedade na sua condição original.
Everyone may:
- walk, ski or cycle freely in the countryside, except in gardens, in the immediate vicinity of people’s homes, and in fields and plantations which could easily be damaged
- stay or set up camp temporarily in the countryside, a reasonable distance from homes
- pick wild berries, mushrooms and flowers, as long as they are not protected species
- fish with a rod and line
- row, sail or use a motorboat on waterways, with certain restrictions; swim or wash in inland waters and the sea
- walk, ski and fish on frozen lakes, rivers and the sea

In fact, one of the things that always puzzled me was, when I was working from my previous home, the number of cars that “invaded” my entrance just to make a three-point turn.
At least they could have taken some apples! 😀
